About

Who am I? Identity requires labels. Some are tribal, some you acquire by choice. On the tribal front, I am a Spaniard, although I live in Switzerland (and lived in Germany before that, and in Austria before that). I come from Valencia, so I was raised in two languages, Spanish and Catalan (or Valencian, as we call it), but nowadays I live and work in two other languages, English and German. On the by-choice front, I am a University (full) professor of Economics, but I originally studied Mathematics and I also work in Psychology and Neuroscience.

Hopefully, your identity is not just defined by your origin and your job. Mine is not. In my spare time, I love to hike in the Alps, and I consume Science Fiction in different formats (books, films, series, comics). I am also a bit of a History enthusiast, especially regarding the Roman Empire and the Spanish Golden Age (Siglo de Oro).

What is this blog? Probably just a collection of random thoughts which I want to get out of my mind. Why multi-language? Because I am multilingual, and, although for professional reasons I gravitate towards English for most of my writing, I can foresee topics where other languages will be more appropriate.

So, (sarcasm on) in the fullness of time, as Sir Humphrey Appleby surely would put it, this will become a repository for otherwise forgotten thought gems. (sarcasm off) Or not. Why does anybody collect their random thoughts in this format? In the electronic era, it has become easy for people to satisfy the imperative urge to read their own printed word. I can almost hear George Carlin explain how that is a Very Good Thing. Else they would succumb to the temptation of listening to their own voices, something much more likely to spill over to the innocent bystander (Carlin never said that, but he could easily have…). Anyway, the answer is clearly 42.
